In 2010, an Englishman called Ed Stafford decided to walk from the start of the River Amazon to the end. From the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.

He started in Peru, walked through Colombia and finished in Brazil. He didn’t do it alone. For most of the journey he was with a Peruvian called Cho Rivera Sanchez. In total they walked for 860 days, more than two years!

Ed thinks he walked around nine million steps and mosquitoes bit him thousands of times. They couldn’t really follow a map because the river changes position a lot.

They walked through jungle, across canyons, up mountains and through water. It was very dangerous because of the river, wild animals like jaguars and snakes such as vipers.

They didn’t always speak the language of the people they met and they didn’t always have enough food. Some people were very kind but others were less friendly. The trip was a success and they finally dived into the sea from a beach in Brazil at the end of a very long journey.

Terry Palin, who lives in London, decided to visit his sister for a weekend. He had a one-year-old dog called Mollie, but he didn’t want to take Mollie with him. So, he asked a friend to stay with her. Terry went away, and took the train to see his sister.

After a day, Mollie went missing. Terry got a phone call from his friend, who was very worried. Then, the next day, the police called Terry. They had Mollie. She was at an airport in London! This is what happened.

Mollie was very unhappy that Terry went away, so she ran out of the house. She got on an underground train (without buying a ticket), and travelled all the way to one of London’s big train stations. Next, she got on another train, and went to the airport.

Mollie’s journey was 35 miles, and took about two hours. When she got to the airport, Mollie waited until someone saw her, and checked her name.

Terry doesn’t know why Mollie went on her big journey. But next time, he will take Mollie with him to see his sister.

In 1928, someone asked Amelia to go on an aeroplane across the Atlantic with two men. And so, between June 18–19, she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic.

Amelia wanted to fly more. In 1937, she decided to fly a plane all the way around the world. She started in Oakland, California. But, after 22,000 miles, on July 2, her plane crashed in the Pacific, and she died.
