Amelia Earhart was born in the US on July 24, 1897. Her parents were very rich, but always busy with work, so Amelia lived with her grandparents for 12 years.

During World War I, between 1914 and 1918, Amelia worked as a nurse. She hated the war, because a lot of people died.

In the winter of 1920, Amelia visited an air show and a pilot offered to take her for a ride. She loved it and decided to learn how to fly a plane. She worked hard to get money, and in 1921, she decided to buy her own plane.

In 1928, someone asked Amelia to go on an aeroplane across the Atlantic with two men. And so, between June 18–19, she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic.

Amelia wanted to fly more. In 1937, she decided to fly a plane all the way around the world. She started in Oakland, California. But, after 22,000 miles, on July 2, her plane crashed in the Pacific, and she died.

She was a very important woman in the history of flying.
